Serbian football referee arrested

The Serbian police arrested a football referee for match-fixing, the Internal Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday.

The police arrested referee Srdjan Obradovic under orders from the Higher Public Prosecution in Novi Sad on charges of abuse of position in favor of Spartak FC at a match on May 12. “He is suspected of using his official position to favour the home team at a FC Spartak-FC Radnicki match in Subotica and put it into a better position against the opponent,” a press release >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << said.

Obradovic awarded Spartak a penalty kick for no reason when the home side was already leading Radnicki 1:0. Spartak won the match 3:0 and is ahead in the run up to European League qualifications thanks to the win. Obradovic was put into 48 hour detention.
