Serbian economy not profitable enough
The Serbian economy reported net profits of 437.2 billion Dinars or 3.7 billion Euro but still can’t finance itself, the Serbian Business Registers Agency (APR) said on Tuesday.
Total profits stood at 666.6 billion Dinars or 5.6 billion Euro and losses at 229 billion Dinars or 1.9 billion Euro, the APR’s Ruzica Stamenkovic told a media conference, adding that a total of 101,012 companies were in operation in 2017, employing1,073,557 people.
Stamenkovic said the biggest >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << problems facing the economy in 2017 were debts and shortage of funds. The reported profit levels are not sufficient to allow the economy to finance itself, she warned.
“The economy has been reporting net profits for the third year in a row, two or three times higher than in the previous year,” Stamenkovic said but added that 15,289 companies had not filed business reports which is more than in the previous year.
She said 59,131 companies reported profits, including 1,324 whose profits were higher than a year earlier while 26,592 reported losses which is 1,048 less than in 2016.
Speaking about state-owned public services companies, Stamenkovic said 421 reported net profits while 135 reported losses.
“Profits were mainly reported by the processing industry,” she said and added that profits were also reported by the retail trade, IT and communications, power supply industry, mining, real estate and construction and tourism and food industries.
