Serbian defence minister in Lebanon

Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin started a visit to the Army of Serbia (VS) detachment with the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon on Tuesday.

A Ministry press release said that Vulin met with senior UNIFIL staff and added that he will meet the 177 VS personnel deployed in the mission’s Sectors East and West on Wednesday.

“Serbia now has 322 personnel in 10 peace mission, six of which are under UN command and four under European Union command. The level of our training >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and the quality of our people has proved to be exceptional wherever we are deployed,” the minister is quoted as saying.

As a militarily neutral country, Serbia will remain committed to involvement in peace missions as a way to show that it can “export peace and stability”, Vulin added.

The UNIFIL mission was deployed in southern Lebanon in 1978 to confirm the withdrawal of Israeli forces and assist the country’s government in restoring peace and security. It is the only UN peace mission with a naval component and now numbers 9,400 land forces, more than 850 naval personnel and 900 civilian staff.
