Serbian Government policies based on tolerance, PM says
The Serbian government bases its policies on tolerance and respect for minority rights, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told Thursday’s session of the National Minority Council.
“The level of discrimination of minority groups and national minorities is dropping but we still have a lot to do to be a fully inclusive society,” she is quoted as saying in a press release. She said there are disagreements in the government.
“There are disagreements like in any other team. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << We are all part of some team, there are different views, disagreements and debats but no more than in any other team and this should not be a taboo topic,” she told TV Pink later adding that a government reshuffle is not on the table at present. “A reshuffle of the government was mentioned some time ago before serious instability in Kosovo. The priorities are national unity, a united team in the government, support to President Aleksandar Vucic to find a compromise solution to normalizing relations with Pristina and the reshuffle had to take a back seat,” she said.
Among the reasons for speculation about a possible reshuffle of Brnabic’s cabinet are the resignation of Finance Minister Dusan Vujovic and a tweet by Minister without portfolio Nenad Popovic which met with fierce criticism for being discriminatory against the LGBT population.
Popovic told N1 that he still hasn’t met with the Prime Minister to discuss his tweet which drew criticism “I still haven’t spoken to the Prime Minister. I will be pleased to make a statement but we haven’t spoken about that earlier,” he said adding that his views have not changed.
Brnabic said she would meet with Popovic alone to discuss his tweet calling for the immediate halt to imports of what he called gay picture books for children.
