Serbian Farmers meet minister to discuss sunflower prices

The Serbian Agriculture Minister and a farmers’ association have reached agreement on taking steps to counter changes on the sunflower market, the ministry said on Friday.

“Minister Branislav Nedimovic and the Independent Association of Farmers of Serbia (NAPS) agreed to monitor the sunflower market and introduce measures in case of unpredictable changes,” a press release said.

Sunflower farmers are dissatisfied over the low prices offered by cooking oil makers. >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Last year’s prices stood at between 37 and 41 Dinars a kilogram and this year only the Viktorija oil company has offered 28.5 Dinars. The farmers told the minister they believe that other buyers will offer low prices under pressure from Viktorija.

The press release said that the “Anti-Monopoly Commission will soon publish an opinion on possible abuses of the position of oil producers on the market”.
