Serbia to raise minimum wage
Talks are underway between the Serbian Finance and Labour Ministries to raise the minimum wage by September 15, Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti said on Friday.
inance Minister Sinisa Mali and Labour Minister Zoran Djordjevic continued the talks on raising the minimum wage on Thursday, the daily said, adding that representatives of unions, employers and the government will join the talks on Monday, August 27. The law sets a deadline of September 15 to raise the minimum wage and an agreement is expected to be reached by September 10 at the latest, Vecernje Novosti said. If the ministers, unions and employers fail to reach an agreement, the government will have the final word on the minimum wage.
According to the Association of Independent Unions, the current minimum monthly wage of 24,800 Dinars a month (about 200 Euros) or 143 Dinars an hour (just over 1 Euro) shuold be raised by 11,500 Dinars (about 95 Euros) a month or 209 Dinars an hour (about 1.5 Euro). Employers’ organizations have not taken a stand yet.
