Serbia late with road corridors

Serbia is running late with the construction of the Corridors 10 and 11 because of problems with preparations and unrealistic political promises, the Belgrade-based Demostat Research Centre said on Thursday.

The problems include problems with land expropriation and a shortage of construction companies, the centre said.

It added that the construction of roads in neighbouring Croatia is much faster and simpler than in Serbia. “The construction of the Zagreb-Split highway >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << which is comparable to the Corridors 10 and 11 was launched in 2002 and completed in just three years,” Demostat said.

The centre recalled that Serbian Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said the Corridor 10 would be completed by the end of February 2018 and then moved that deadline to the end of the year. Her predecessor Milutin Mrkonjic gave the deadline as 2014 and before him Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic and President Boris Tadic promised to complete the road project in 2011 or 2012, Demostat said.
