Serbia capable of trying ultra-nationalists
Justice Minister Nela Kuburovic said that the Serbian judiciary is fully capable of prosecuting two ultra-nationalists indicted for witness tampering by the Hague Tribunal (ICTY), the Beta news agency reported.
In her letter to the ICTY successor (the UN Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals), Kuburovic wrote that there is no valid reason why Serbian Radical Party (SRS) officials Vjerica Radeta and Petar Jojic should not be tried in Serbia.
The letter was released >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << to the media in the Hague on Thursday.
“I assure you that the Republic of Serbia is ready to meet this obligations,” the Justice Minister’s letter said. Kuburovic is reported to have rejected the statement by Prosecutor Dianna Ellis that justice would not be served if the case was turned over to the Serbian judiciary saying it was incorrect and ill-intentioned.
Jojic and Radeta were indicted by the ICTY in October 2012 for threatening and bribing witnesses at the trial of their party leader Vojislav Seselj who was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for war crimes. Seselj spent 12 years at the ICTY detention unit pending and during his trial.
