Serbia cannot solve migrant crisis alone

Serbia cannot stand alone in resolving the migrant crisis, Serbia’s Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said in Brussels on Tuesday at a meeting on the situation in the Western Balkans.

“Serbia finds it important for Europe to understand our problems and the fact that we cannot be alone in solving this crisis. Serbia is not a country which can independently solve this problem nor can any other country alone,” Stefanovic is quoted as saying.

In an interview to today’s issue of German daily Die Welt, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said the Serbian police cooperates well with the police in neighboring countries and the EU border agency Frontex. “We turned more than 40,000 people away from the border for trying to cross illegally and we will continue to do that. Any future common migration policy must include the Balkan states and if that policy with the EU is fair and in line with agreements we will take part,” she said.
