Same curricula for students from RS and Serbian schools
A joint session of parliamentary committees from the Republika Srpska and Serbia decided to harmonize the curricula for elementary school students in the RS and Serbia for the national group of subjects: Serbian language, History and Geography (Nature and Society in lower grades).
“We concluded that Serb children should learn the same language, geography and history regardless of where they live, because they are the same people, with the same history and same language and it >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << is only normal that elementary school curricula should be the same,” RS Education Minister Dane Malesevic said.
The RS and Serbian Parliament education committes held a special session on Monday to "harmonize curricula for the national group of subjects in schools in RS and Serbia."
“Homeland” coalition MP group chief in the RS Parliament Admir Cavka said that the problem is that Bosniaks do not have the right to call their language the way they want. “The RS Constitution doesn’t recognize the Bosnian language. We need a compromise to solve this issue. I think we’re forgetting the essence here, and that is that our students and children are leaving this area,” Cavka said.
The RS Constitution stipulates that languages spoken in the RS are the languages spoken by the Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats without specifying the exact names of each of the three languages.
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia warned that damage could be caused by simply aligning one school curriculum with the curriculum of a neighbouring country and could undermine the process launched by the Bosnian authorities to reform and improve the quality of education for all students in Bosnia.
