Raspberry growers in Serbia agree higher repurchase price
Dobrivoje Radovic, the president of the Raspberry Association Producers, has said they agreed with the Agriculture Ministry to continue the picking at a new price for the fruit of 1.05 Euro per kilogram, instead of 0.4 and 0.67 Euro as it was before the growers started their protests.
In fact, the new price is the same as it was before its reduction, and less than 1.6 Euro the growers demanded.

“We have agreed to empty the freezers in the south of Serbia and move the raspberries to Sabac and Sombor, in the west and in the north respectively, to free the capacities and continue the repurchasing.”
Radovic said after the meeting also attended by the Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic. Both ministers promised that the repurchasing would be conducted according to the market rules and that the process should not be stopped without prior notifications of the farmers.
The growers presented another demand seeking guarantees that “the freezer owners honour the agreement and that once they sign it, they can not one-sidedly stop the repurchasing.”
Radovic added that the Association would like to know who had ordered: “to deliberately stop the raspberries’ repurchasing under an excuse that the freezers were full when about 75 percent of their capacity was empty.”They also requested a stricter control of the raspberries’ import.
A new meeting about those growers’ demands will be held at the Agriculture Ministry on June 21, a day before the farmers announced would stage a new rally in all Serbia’s towns.
