Prema sudskim dokumentima, mrtvozornik je utvrdio da je devojčica imala sintetički opoidni fentanil u svom sistemu. Ta droga je anegetik koji se često meša sa heroinom.

Kimberli je priznala da je koristila heroin makar jednom nedeljno u periodu kada je njena ćerka umrla. Ona je prvobitno uhapšena zbog posedovanja droge, a optužbe da je utrljavala heroin u desni svoje ćerke dodate su kada je bebin otac svedočio da je prisustvovao tim scenama.

- Rekla mi je da je stalno tako uspavljivala starije dete. Nije povredila ćerku namerno - rekao je on.
