Public debates on local community budgets, Serbian minister
Serbia’s cities and municipalities are under obligation to organize public debates about their budgets, State Administration and Local Government Minister Branko Ruzic said on Thursday.
The minister called the population of Serbia to make use of the new mechanism which was introduced in changes to the law on local government and take an active part in the debates on investments and other budget spending, a ministry press release said.
“This is a way to achieve direct >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << democracy and a reach a higher level of engagement by the population in taking decisions which are important for their communities. The budget funds belong to every citizen and they have the right to take part in decisions on investments and spending which is why we introduced this mechanism,” Ruzic said.
The minister said a number of towns and municipalities have already organized debates on their budgets.
