Pride Parade takes place in Belgrade

Under the slogan ‘Say Yes’, participants of the Pride Parade have walked the streets of Belgrade on Sunday, asking the Government to adopt a law on registered partnerships and gender identity.

The parade went by without incidents and was secured by a smaller number of police officers than in previous years.

The Pride was lead by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and joined by Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, Zoran Djordjevic, and Minister of Public >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Administration and Local Self-Government, Branko Ruzic.

A number of foreign officials also joined the Pride, including US Ambassador Kyle Scott, French Ambassador Frederic Mondoloni, Norway’s Ambassador Arne Sannes Bjornstad and the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi. Serbia’s Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Brankica Jankovic, also joined it.

Citizens were throwing confetti from their terraces, while participants carried balloons and rainbow flags.

Participants started their walk from the Slavija Square after this year’s parade godmother, journalist Suzana Trninic, declared it officially open.

Organisers of the event said that significant progress was made in improving the rights of the LGBT+ community in Serbia, but that it was very slow.

Other than requesting that the government adopts laws on registered partnerships and on gender identity, participants demanded better implementation of laws against hate crimes.
