Press Council registered thousands of media code violations
The Serbian Press Council has registered thousands of articles and reports which were in violation of the journalists’ code, mainly in tabloids and the most popular portals, Press Council General Secretary Gordana Novakovic told the Beta news agency.
“The weakest point is in how journalists are supposed to report on things in the public interest without doing wrong to the people they are writing about and other ordinary people,” she said.
Novakovic said that the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << complaints received by the Press Council and its monitoring show that the biggest problem in the media is the reporting of speculation, unverified information and slander.
Problems include violations of privacy and the right to the assumption of innocence.
“Journalists are often not even aware of what they are doing to people when they report details such as family tragedies. Children are especially unprotected in the media here,” she said.
