Over half a million unemployed in Serbia

Serbia has more than half a million unemployed even though the Labour Minister says the unemployment rate has been dropping consistently for months.

Labour Minister Zoran Djordjevic told reporters on Wednesday that some 570,000 people are registered as unemployed at present.

He said that the number of people registered as unemployed with the National Employment Service has been dropping from month to month and added that Serbia will be faced with a labour shortage in >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the future.

“We have a workforce and are investing in it and this year we have introduced re-training for people with jobs, not just the unemployed. We want all employees to keep their jobs,” Djordjevic said.

According to the labour minister, one of the problems in Serbia is the fact that some people undergo certain forms of training only to be able to emigrate. He believes that conditions will be created in future for those people to return home.
