OSCE media freedom representative Desir says security is priority
The new OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir told Serbian officials on Wednesday (April 11) that the security of journalists and the solving of their murders are priorities for his organization.
Several Serbian journalists were murdered in the past 25 years and their cases have not been solved. Desir told Prime Minister Ana Brnabić that financial transparency is of crucial importance >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and offered his office‘s help in drafting national strategies for the media and development of the public information system in Serbia.
Brnabić said her government advocates open dialogue and media freedom as conditions to develop a democratic society and condemned every form of violence against the media. She said all reported attacks on the media were being investigated.
Desir had separate meetings with President Aleksandar Vučić and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić both of who said Serbia attaches great importance to freedom of expression and the security of journalists.
