Nazi symbols in downtown Belgrade
Swastikas and ‘Heil Hitler’ Nazi salute appeared sprayed on the internal wall of the Student Park's fence in downtown Belgrade on Friday morning.
People published the photos of the symbols on social networks, and the authorities promised to react soon.
A member of the Jewish Community in Belgrade Igor Ginzberg told Radio Free Europe (RFE) that seeing swastikas made a painful impression among Jews, adding that such messages were not meant for them only, but for all >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the citizens.
“These are extreme things. It resembles a recall of fascism, anti-Semitism and Nazism and that is what is worrying,” he said.
Ginzberg added that “what is even more difficult in Serbia, and other countries as well, is that those things cannot be solved overnight."
"It is a job for the entire society – governmental, non-governmental sectors and all institutions that can do something about it,” he said.
