This was the third incident with the Supergaleb G-4 in the past 10 years and the 14th since the aircraft was introduced into service in 1984. The plane was developed for the Yugoslav Air Force to replace outdated jet trainers in the 1970s. Several of the aircraft are operated by former Yugoslav republics and Myanmar Air Force which took delivery of six planes in the 1990s.
The Serbian Air Force has some 20 G-4 aircraft in service with a training squadron at Batajnica air base and a fighter-bomber squadron at Kraljevo airfield. All of the aircraft were produced between 1980 and 1991.
