Media complain about lack of access to information

The Media Coalition said on Thursday it had sent 126 media-related cases of ignored rulings about the free access to information of public importance to the Government Coordination group for cooperation with media, demanding their immediate implementation, the Beta news agency reported.

In a letter, the Coalition, a member to the Team for the dialogue with media, said there was a total of 601 cases, but that their request for an immediate reaction could refer only to media-related >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << issues.

It added the number of the unimplemented rulings between the beginning of 2015 to the end of September this year, dramatically increased, jeopardising the citizens’ constitutional right to accurate, complete and timely information of public interest.

“Our demands to implement the rulings are in fact requests to honour the constitutional and legal obligations,” the Coalition said, adding its further participation in the work with the Government would depend on the implementation of the rulings.

It said that out of 126 cases, 77 were linked to the authorities at the state level and 49 to a lower level of power, adding it hoped that they all could be implemented by the New Year.

“We firmly believe that the state institutions should respect all the Commissioner for Information of Public Interest and Personal Data Protection's rulings and that no one should be discriminated.

But, they stressed, "our request is about media cases, and we expect a fast reaction to convince us that there is political will for solving media problem.”
