Juvenile Justice: Working Together Towards a Better Society
In the past few decades, the number of juveniles committing law offenses has increased. With this, concern for juvenile offenders and delinquents, the causes of delinquency, and the criminal behavior of juveniles and their reintegration to society has become a subject matter of many studies. As a result, various approaches to the treatment and handling of juvenile offenders have been adopted. Some authors distinguish between educational measurements and penalty measurements (Jocic, D. et all, 2007), others between informal and formal ways of treating juveniles (Gordon, J., n.d.). Educational and informal measurements are usually applied to first-time offenders (juveniles who commit an offense for the first time) and delinquents. The second group of offenders and delinquents, called frequent flyers, usually end up being sentenced with more formal penalty measures.
