Instant payment in banks in Serbia

Banks in Serbia activated “instant payment system” on Monday, enabling almost immediate money transfer 24/7 via m-banking, e-banking or at banks’ counters, the Vecernje Novosti daily reported.

The daily said that the banks were obliged to secure at least one channel for the service, while as of April 1 they would have to provide instant payment via all transaction channels.

Serbia’s National Bank (NBS) said that four out of 28 banks operating in Serbia would enable >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the service from April 1 at the latest: Banka Inteza, Erste bank, Vojvodjanska banka and Piraeus bank, who had planned to change the complete central banking system or its reorganisation, asked for the extension.

The daily said that the testing of the new system was conducted in June and went on without severe problems in implementation.

The instant payment would be available via particular mobile phone applications using QR code, which would make possible to transfer money even without recipients’ account numbers only by using their mobile phone numbers.
