Heavy rain may cause floods across Serbia

Belgrade suburb of Obrenovac was hit with heavy rain on Friday, while 30 residents of the Stepojevac part of the city have been evacuated.

Obrenovac suffered the most in floods between May 13 and 18, 2014 when a low-pressure cyclone designated Tamara and Yvette affected a large area of Southeastern and Central Europe.

On Friday, in the northern city of Novi Sad the streets and some households’ yards are flooded.

The sewage could not take in all the water >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and firefighters were pumping it from the yards and houses’ cellars.

The Emergency Situation Division stated that there was no casualty and that the population was not in danger.

Belgrade Deputy Major Goran Vesic said the most significant problem was in the basin of the Topciderska river where a stream endangered more than 20 households in the Belgrade southern municipality of Rakovica.

Emergency Division said all services were ready for assistance.

Vesic added that the quantity of rain exceeded the weather forecast and that new rain was expected during the night bringing in additional 20 litres per square meter on Saturday.
