Gunsmiths in Serbia suspend strike

Following a lower turnout, the workers at Serbia’s largest weapon factory in a central Serbia decided to discontinue the general strike they started last week.

Dragan Ilic, the president of the Striking Board, told N1 that there was a turn in fighting for the workers’ rights and a number of them went back to work.

“Fewer employees turned out on Monday, so we decided to suspend the strike. We will collect workers’ signatures until Wednesday to see how many of them >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << will go to Belgrade on Thursday to join a massive gunsmiths’ protest outside the Government’s and Defence Ministry’s buildings.” Iilic said.

He added that they would present the authorities their basic demands, including the replacement of the Kagujevac factory general manager and the exemption of their company from a process of privatisation.
