Germany doesn’t want to replace Mogherini
German ambassador to Serbia Axel Dittmann denied on Thursday a Belgrade daily report that his country is seeking the replacement for the EU’s diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini in facilitating the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue.
Asked about the Blic newspaper diplomatic sources saying that Germany would like Mogherini to find someone else for her role in the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue because “she has a lot of other issues to deal with,” Dittmann said it was not right.

The unnamed sources told the daily on Wednesday about a German proposal to name a special EU representative who would replace Mogherini, the EU’s diplomacy chief.
“It is not true. Germany does not want to replace the special negotiator Mogherini with anyone else. She is a key person representing the European Union,” the ambassador told reporters in Belgrade at the sidelines of the international conference “Messages from Western Balkans”, organised by the European Movement in Serbia.
The envoy said Germany supported the forthcoming meeting of the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci respectively, adding that the solving of the neighbourly relations was one of the top EU's requests for Serbia.
He added that the reforms, modernisation and the rule of law are also challenging issues for Serbia on its road to the EU.
“As far as European Union is concerned the relations among the neighbours are essential because we don’t want conflict and that’s why we advocate the normalisation between Belgrade and Pristina,” Dittmann said.
He added that “the dialogue is most important for the people who live in Kosovo, and that is the reason why the EU supports both sides in the dialogue.”
