Funds secured to upgrade Serbian flight control
Serbia’s air traffic control (SMATSA) signed a 45 million Euro contract with the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Wednesday to upgrade its flight control and radar systems.
The contract is part of a 2017-2021 program to modernize SMATSA (the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services) worth 118 million Euro which will be financed from SMATSA funds and loans from the EIB and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Traffic >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << and Infrastructure said.
Investments will be made in the Konstantin Veliki airport in Nis, Ponikve in Uzice, Morava in Kraljevo and Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla with the biggest single investment of 5.5 million Euro planned to be the construction of a control tower in Nis.
SMATSA also plans to build an annex to the flight control center and control tower at Belgrade airport along with upgrades to its radio navigation system.
The contract was signed at a meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and European Council President Donald Tusk.
