Fresh arson attacks in southern Serbian city

Three cars were set ablaze in Serbia’s southern city of Nis, continuing a series of arson attacks in which more than 10 automobiles have been destroyed in the past few months.

The arson attack incidents include the torching of the car of senior police officer Dejan Utvic. The arsonists were caught in that case but there has been no information about who ordered the attack or why.

The car set ablaze in the latest incident belonged to a local hotel owner. Two more cars >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << burned as the flames spread.

Local residents called the fire brigade and police but refused to speak to reporters, saying they were afraid of the people torching the cars.

A total of 8 cars were deliberately set ablaze in the city in November and December 2017 alone, three of them police cars and one owned by the family of a police inspector. The arsonists also set fire to a car owned by Nis deputy Mayor Milos Bandjur.

The Nis city police said the uniformed police presence on the streets had been increased but provided no motive for the arson attacks.
