France’s Ambassador to Belgrade Frédéric Mondoloni reiterated on Monday there was no intent to offend Serbia’s people during the Remembrance day in Paris with what he called a “very clumsy thing ” in seating arrangement and asked the country’s leadership and citizens to accept an apology, the Beta news agency reported.

“I repeat there was no any intention to offend President (Aleksandar) Vucic or the people of Serbia. It was a regrettable clumsiness, and I ask President Vucic and the people of Serbia to accept the apology,” Mondoloni said.
Earlier on Monday, the ambassador commented on Serbia’s media speculation about what had happened in Paris on Sunday when Vucic was seated far behind the other leaders of the key winner countries in the WWI, while Kosovo’s President Hashim Thaci was just behind the Russian Vladimir Putin.
Mondoloni rejected the media claims that Thaci “paid for the place.”
Vucic thanked the ambassador for his statement and added French President Emmanuel Macron would get a magnificent reception when he comes to Belgrade in December.
“Thanks to Ambassador Mondoloni for his wonderful words and the respect he showed for Serbian casualties,” Vucic wrote on his Twitter account.
On Monday night, Mondoloni said France did not forget Serbia’s sacrifice during the Great War, the fact the country lost the one-third of its population and that its soldiers fought arm-in-arm with French troops.
