False news spreading, N1 TV producer warns
The presence of false news is escalating along with their domination and they can cause material and emotional damage and even put someone’s life in danger, N1 TV producer and presenter Milos Milovanovic told the FoNet news agency on Thursday.
He said that it’s very easy to place some piece of information and turn it into news given the revolution in what is considered to be media and added that in these circumstances, journalists have to be quicker, more dynamic and interesting >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << with more information.
He warned the reporters often latch onto unverified information, believing it to be newsworthy. “We have a problem if the source is not reliable or the news is not verified because it might have been placed with the intention of drawing attention away from something or to discredit someone,” Milovanovic said.
He voiced the conviction that social networks have contributed to the flood of all kinds of information because to many they are the sole source of news and the lack of a punitive system has just helped step up the intensity of false news.
“It’s very important for journalists to be professional and ethical when reporting, especially because of the huge variety of reports that find their way to news desks. Sensational news can often be an announcement of a cataclysm or completely wrong to trick someone,” the N1 producer and presenter said.
He warned that the repairing of damage caused by false news takes much longer with consequences which can be very destructive. Providing information to the public is useful only if the person placing the news has a conscience and their report is right, Milovanovic said.
