FIFA fines three Switzerland players over celebration
FIFA fined Switzerland national football team players Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka and Stephan Lichtsteiner from 5,000 to 10,000 Swiss franks for celebrating the goals with a gesture which appeared to imitate the eagle displayed on Albania's flag.
The Swiss team won against Serbia 2-1 in a match played in Kaliningrad on Friday.
FIFA also launched the procedure against Serbia's Football Association (FSS) because of the supporters behavior.
Reportedly, Serbia's >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << fans shouted political and offending slogans, while Serbia's coach Mladen Krstajic's post-game statements were found disputable as well.
Krstajic will have to pay 5,000 Swiss franks for those statements and his comments on the refereeing.
The FSS President Slavisa Kokeza will have to pay the same sum for his statements to the BBC in which he criticised the work of FIFA and the Referee Organisation, while the FSS was fined 54,000 Swiss franks for the supporters’ unacceptable behaviour.
After the first game against Costa Rica which Serbia won 1-0, the FSS was fined 10,000 Swiss franks for the same reason.
The FSS submitted a complaint against the performance of German referee Felix Brych in the match, assessing it as partial.
