Ex Croatian President: Belgrade-Zagreb relations degraded

Former Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has said that the relations between Serbia and Croatia deteriorated in the last three years, adding the positive top political messages were needed.

In a statement to the Belgrade based Danas daily, Josipovic added that the current politicians were spoiling the relations by misusing them for “cheap, nationalistic points in domestic consumption.”

He added that neither majority Serbs nor the huge numbers of Croats were sympathizers of Chetnicks or Ustashas respectively.“  The politics simply open space to the extremists and media help them.”

Josipovic said he supported a visit by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic to Serbia. “It would be nice it ended in an agreement to replace the existing almost warmongering rhetoric, to decide on the principles of positive communication and to concur on a concrete plan for solving all open issues,” Josipovic said.
