Every third driver in Serbia admits being drunk at the wheel
Serbia’s Agency for Traffic Safety survey shows that the drivers are unanimously in favour of the punishment for drunk people behind the wheel, while every third of them admits driving under the influence, the FoNet news agency has reported on Thursday.
Jasmina Milosevic, the Agency’s director, said that in the survey conducted in all Serbia’s municipalities, 80 percent of the polled said they drove over the speed limit.
The most endangered people in traffic are >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << the pedestrians, those over 65 years of age and motorcyclists, Milosevic says, adding that 20 percent of the latter admit they ride without a helmet.
On the other hand, 64 pedestrians admitted they crossed the street outside proper crossings.
The largest number of drunk drivers were registered in the southern city of Nis, followed by the eastern town of Smederevo, central town of Krusevac and northern towns of Zrenjanin and Sremska Mitrovica.
Milosevic also said that only one out of three parents drove their children properly, with 48 percent using a special seat for children under three years old, and only 27 percent for those up to 12 years of age.
