Eight men receive 60-year jail term for war crimes in BiH
After a six-year trial, the State Court sentenced eight suspects to a total of 60 years in prison for crimes against Serbs and Croats in the camp ‘Silos,’ the ‘Krupa’ barracks and the Primary School ‘May 9’ Hadzici in Sarajevo Canton.
The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina sentenced Mustafa Djelilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Halid Covic, Becir Hujic, Sherif Mesanovic and Nermin Kalember for inhumane treatment and inflicting physical and mental suffering >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << on detainees in detention camps in the Hadzici Municipality, Detektor.ba reports.
All eight were convicted of crimes against civilians of the Serb and Croat nationality and were acquitted of crimes against prisoners of war since the Trial Chamber found that all the Serb detainees were civilians.
Former President of the Hadzici Crisis Staff Mustafa Djelilovic and former commander of the Ninth Mountain Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nezir Kazic were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The panel also sentenced former Chief of Police in Hadzici Fadil Covic and ‘Silos’ manager Becir Hujic to eight years in prison, while the de facto police commander in Pazaric, near Sarajevo, Mirsad Sabic and deputy manager in ‘Silos’ Halid Covic, were sentenced to six years in prison.
The former manager of ‘Krupa’ barracks Serif Mesanovic was sentenced to seven, while former a guard at the 'Krupa' barracks Nermin Kalember was sentenced to five years in prison.
The convicted men can appeal the verdict.
