Education minister supports compulsory secondary education

Serbia’s Education, Science and Technology Minister Mladen Sarcevic said on Saturday he was in favour of introducing the compulsory secondary education in Serbia.

The Minister noted that 85 percent of children in Serbia attends high school but that there are certain groups in the population who need the inclusion in the high school education.

As for the request to enable the students being enrolled in universities for a longer period of time to complete their education, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Sarcevic said he had nothing against someone being a student for 20 or 30 years.

“There is a problem of technical nature here because it’s not possible to do it on the same curriculum as a certain subject doesn’t exist anymore. This is the last attempt because it is still feasible. But there is also a problem of social nature, as those students must switch to the Bologna model, to sit for differentiated exams and to pay an additional amount,” the Minister explained.

He assessed the main problem with the higher education was the fact that the financing was arranged in regulations and a student is not in the centre of attention.
