EIB expects full report from Serbian government

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is expecting a report from the Corridors Serbia road company on the collapse of a support wall in the Grdelicka Gorge, FoNet news agency reported on Friday.

“We expect the Corridors Serbia to report to us in the coming weeks on the conclusions about the causes of the incidents on the Corridor 10 and on possible solutions,” the EIB said in a written reply to the Radio Free Europe (RFE).

A support wall separating the road through the >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << Grdelicka Gorge from a nearby hill collapsed last weekend following a landslide. This was the third similar incident in the past five months on the same section of road. The wall was built by the Spanish company Azvi. The entire project is being financed by the EIB.

The Corridors Serbia company is investigating the causes of the collapse and looking into possible solutions, the EIB said in its reply.   The EIB said that all the sides involved in the project knew that the unstable geology of the area was a known risk from the start of the project. The bank said that the Corridors Serbia and its predecessor the Serbia Roads company adhered to good practices, including an appropriate risk assessment.

The EIB said that it intends to continue investing in its partnership with the Serbian government.
