The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Wednesday presented a program to finance the green economy in Serbia worth 85 million Euros.

She said the Erste and Unicredit banks would handle the loans in Serbia.

Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said that households in Serbia use much more power than households in European Union member states, adding that households account for 35 percent of Serbia’s power consumption. The minister said that energy efficiency is viewed as an added power source, adding that Serbia also invests in renewable energy sources.

Energy efficiency is important for Serbia in its accession negotiations with the European Union, EU Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi said. He recalled that the Paris agreement on climate changes obliged the EU to lower its greenhouse gas emmissions by 40 percent, provide at least 27 percent of power from renewable sources and upgrade its energy efficiency by 20 percent by the year 2050.
