Doubts remain about motives in Cvetkovic case

Several public figures said on Tuesday that doubts remain about the account and motives behind the disappearance of journalist Svetozar Cvetkovic.

The accounts given by the police and Stefan Cvetkovic did not provide any clue as to the motives behind his real or possibly faked abduction, Serbian Journalists’ Association (UNS) chief Vladimir Radomirovic said. “We did not hear anything from Cvetkovic about the motives for his abduction nor from the police or prosecution about >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << his motives to stage this,” Radomirovic said, adding that nothing is clear about the case.

“The important thing now is to get answers from the police and prosecution who didn’t say a lot over the past few days,” he said.

Lawyer Vladimir Beljanski, President of the Vojvodina Bar Association, said that the obviously do not believe Cvetkovic’s account of events. “The prosecution can act only if there is suspicion that crime has been committed and from what we know now neither the police nor the prosecution believe Cvetkovic,” he said.

Serbia’s top policeman Vladimir Rebic said that journalist Stefan Cvetkovic’s account of his disappearance is illogical and full of lies, adding that this is confirmed by the results of the police and prosecution investigation and the fact that he “failed” a polygraph test. Despite that, Cvetkovic’s security detail will remain in place as long as there is any suspicion of threats against him, the Director of Police said.
