Digitalization, education reform are priorities, Serbian PM

Digitalization and a reform of the education system are the priorities of the Serbian government, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Thursday, adding that those two things go hand in hand during the fourth industrial revolution.

E-government is the best response to corruption and is much more secure than today’s bureaucracy for an efficient, transparent and predictable government, she said at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government annual conference on challenges >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << facing governments.

“When you make things more transparent you cut down room for corruption,” she said, adding that standards and a legal framework have to be established for e-government.

“You must have very strict law on protecting personal information, a law on e-government and e-business so that the state administration and business community can use data and exchange them,” Brnabic said.

“Civil servants might be scared of losing their jobs but that is not the case. Once the administration becomes more efficient the private sector flourishes and opportunities for new jobs and higher salaries appear,” the prime minister said.
