Contagious skin disease Leishmaniasis- Cutaneous leishmaniasis, that spread in Syria and Middle East, threatens Serbia if it already hasn't arrived to our country, said for the Telegraf prof. Dr Branislav Tiodorovic, epidemiologist.

This disease, which is transmitted by dogs, then flies and ticks, causes open wounds, nose bleeding, heavy swallowing and breading, according to our interviewee has already been diagnosed in Macedonia and Montenegro.

- If it didn't came, >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu Telegraf.rs << it will. That is a fact. It spreads mostly via domestic animals, mostly dogs, which are the reservoir for Leishmaniasis. So it is a disease which is treated by veterinarians. Considering that we have confirmation about Leishmaniasis in Macedonia and Montenegro, and we have people that are infected in these countries, then any other discussion on this topic is not needed, if it hasn't already arrived to our country - said prof. Dr Branislav Tiodorovic.

Our iterviwee explains that the dogs are the main reservoir of this contagious disease, and they can be transmitted by flies and other insects that can be found on dogs.

- That means it can be spread by ticks, but the main way of spreading is from dog to human. It is not transmitted man to man. Only theoretically via blood, transfusion. Leishmaniasis is treatable, but very difficult process- said Tiodorovic.

Next to Syria, the disease spread on Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan. Prof. Tiodorovic said that there has been increasing number of infected "thanks" to the migrants, especially from Syria, where it is very spread throughout the country.
