Citizens protest separate from opposition in Serbia’s south
The initiative “We’re not giving up Nis’ airport” (“Ne damo niski aerodrom”) said on Tuesday its protest during the city’s assembly meeting to decide on the local airport’s destiny would be held separately from the announced opposition’s rally.
The Initiative added it had an obligation not to betray the most important achievement of the ongoing protests – the fact that the Nis’ residents united on the airport ownership issue regardless of their political >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << views.
The main banner for the protests read: "Citizens' protest, larger than authorities, larger than the opposition."
“With due respect for the opposition’s right to hold their rally, our Initiative does not want to allow that the hard work of hundreds of volunteers, citizens and the public in Serbia on revealing the truth about the airport be used by any political party,” the Initiative’s statement said.
It added that the members and supporters of Nis’ political parties were welcome to the protest, but without their insignia.
