Charges filed against Montenegro Telekom chiefs

Criminal charges have been filed against two former chiefs of the Montenegro Telekom phone services provider, the media in Podgorica reported.

According to those reports, the Montenegrin Special State Prosecution has indicted Oleg Obradovic and Miodrag Ivanovic on suspicion of illegal gains totalling 2.3 million Euro.

The Beta news agency said the Montenegrin Telekom scandal broke out when the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned of bribery in the sale >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << of the Montenegrin phone company to the Hungarian Magyar Telekom in 2005. The SEC claimed that the Hungarian company bribed several Montenegrin officials, including the current president’s sister Ana Djukanovic acting for her brother, with a total of 7.35 million Euro. President Milo Djukanovic and his sister denied the charges.

Under an agreement with the SEC, Magyar Telekom paid some 100 million Dollars to avoid going to court to face corruption charges in Montenegro and Macedonia and three of its top officials paid almost 500,000 Dollars following a corruption trial in Macedonia.
