Call for arrest over assault on local journalist
The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) on Monday called the police to identify and arrest two men who threatened a journalist in the town of Indjija.
Verica Marincic, a journalist with the Indjija Kafe portal which covers local news in the town, was verbally assaulted on Friday by two young men riding past her in a car.
“I didn’t realize that they were shouting at me because I don’t know either of them. I heard them cursing and saying: video >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << this now and curse,” Marincic told the Beta news agency, adding that she suspects that one of them drove a car which was filmed driving through a red light at high speed in the center of Indjija on June 26.
“We published that video on the portal and social networks and appealed for the authorities to react because the same car was seen rushing around the town several times,” she said.
The Indjija Kafe portal also published pictures of razor wire put up around the town swimming pool recently, causing a fierce reaction from the public.
The incident was condemned earlier by the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS).
