Belgrade’s taxi drivers protest over competition
Taxi drivers in Belgrade are strongly opposing a newcomer CAR:GO company platform, saying its work is illegal.
They have been protesting for several days demanding from the authorities to ban CAR:GO platform also for its “damping prices.”

He added they were not protesting over lower prices, but over their unregulated status.
Vukojevic said the CAR:GO platform was not registered as a taxi service, meaning it has been in function illegally for already three years.
The owner of the platform Vuk Guberinic, however, said his company was not a real competition to the taxi service and that there was enough room for everyone.
Their prices are 20-25 percent lower daily than what ordinary taxis charge, and up to 40 percent lower at night since they did not have a the second tariff.
He says the CAR:GO offers renting limo service with a driver digitally, and that it has been under control several times in the past and no wrongdoing has been found.
“We don’t have a meter, a roof sign, no call centre, no dispatch centre, we charge electronically, and our drivers are paying two times higher taxes than the taxi drivers,” Guberinic said, adding his company has a hundred drivers compared to 6,700 registered taxi drivers in the city.
But Vukojevic said he was defending 17,000 families that “you are putting at risk,” which would mean that there were that many registered and illegal taxi drivers in the capital with less than two million people.
New York, for example has around 14,000 yellow cabs, excluding the Uber and other services available to over eight million people according to the 2010 census.
