Agrokor transcripts stir up tensions in Croatia
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic commented on Thursday on the exclusive transcripts released on Wednesday by N1 of the deposition that former Economy Minister Martina Dalic gave to Uskok, Croatia's anti-corruption police, in which she talked about the government's handling of the Agrokor crisis.
In the deposition, Martina Dalic told Uskok the Prime Minister knew about the meetings during which a task force was formed to tackle the crisis in the indebted Agrokor conglomerate. “I think the public, especially those on the political and economic spectrum, should be grateful to the government, including former Deputy Prime Minister (Martina) Dalic because we successfully avoided an economic crash. All we have done was done in the interest of the company, and all of it without using funds from the state budget,” Plenkovic said, adding that Agrokor was a finished story.
Responding to a remark by reporters that Finance Minister Zdravko Maric had not told everything in his deposition in Uskok, he briefly said that the Committee had reached their conclusion.
When asked to comment on the fact that the government Conflict of Interest Committee had opened four separate cases against him, he said: “I already answered that question months ago, there is nothing controversial there because political parties are submitting these complaints.”
“You have to understand this is all politically motivated, everything around (Health Minister) Kujundzic, around Uljanik, and now this recycling of old topics. I don’t condone that. These are old topics, this is all a part of political games, we know what we’re doing,” Plenkovic said.
