"Red Star" is our life
Early in the afternoon, groups of Red Star fans began gathering. People from all over the country came to Belgrade to watch the match between Red Star of Belgrade and Dinamo of Kiev (Ukraine). Some 300 "Red Star" fans came from Sarajevo. They had to pay 150 DM to enter Yugoslavia, but they didn't regret. "I would give 1000 DM to see the match," Brane Matkovic, a fan said. Young people of Kotor (Montenegro) also came to Belgrade. Almost all of them were assured >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu Blic << that there wouldn't be incidents during the game. A group of fans came from Bileca (Herzegovina) to support Red Star and their countryman Steva Glogovac.
Three hours before the match, Red Star fans were walking down the main Streets of Belgrade singing. Cafes placed around the stadium were crammed with people. They were drinking beer and singing. Some people didn't have tickets but they hoped they would enter the stadium. Igor Gerasimovski of Skopje (Macedonia) gave 50 DM for a ticket.
The match was to begin. People were surging toward the entrance. They had to elbow their way in. A couple was kissing at the stairs; boys were finishing their beers; people without tickets were begging policemen to let them in. However, doors closed. Noise was coming from the stands. The game began.
Thoroughly searched
All fans were searched at the entrance. They couldn't take anything into the stadium. They were deprived even of beer tins, plastic bottles and coins. A student of Vranje wasn't allowed to buy a ticket because he was too drunk.
