A regional first for Belgrade surgeons
Surgeons at Belgrade’s Dedinje cardiovascular disease hospital became the first doctors in the Western Balkans to perform the FET operation, a complex aorta surgery.
The Serbian surgeons worked with German expert professor Heinz Jakob, head of surgery at the University Clinic in Essen. The FET operation is used to help patients with degenerative aneurysm and other chronic aorta ailments.
Jakob told N1 that he has been doing the FET surgery for 13 years and has a 90 >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << percent survival rate. He said he had operated on about a third of the 1,000 patients who underwent this surgery in Europe. He said the advantage of this operation is that it gets rid of the problem early on.
Dedinje surgeon Zeljko Bojovic was trained for this type of operation at the clinic in Essen which Jakob said is home to the leading experts in the field.
Jakob said that the Dedinje hospital has reached a level comparable to the clinic that he works in with a team and the know how to use the procedure regularly.
