Monument of Gratitude to France sprayed in Belgrade
The Monument of Gratitude to France erected on November 11, 1930, with the inscription reading: “We love France as it loved us 1914-1918” was sprayed apparently following the incident in Paris last Sunday, the Srna news agency reported.
The lower part of the Monument was wrapped in to cover the sprayed area, and public police presence was increased around the site at the central Belgrade Kalemegdan park.

Unknown perpetrators sprayed the inscription angry at the French organisers of the Remembrance Day in Paris on Sunday when Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic was seated far from Belgrade’s allies in the Great War, while Kosovo’s head of state Hashim Thaci had a place just behind Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
French ambassador to Serbia Frédéric Mondoloni apologised on Monday, calling it a “very clumsy thing," and Vucic thanked him adding Macron would be greeted in Belgrade with all honours.
