Minor incident at Belgrade Pride parade

During their peaceful march in Belgrade on Saturday, participants in the Pride parade called for lawmakers to pass laws recognising same-sex marriages, and demanded more visibility for transgendered persons and better prevention and treatment of HIV.

There was a minor incident when a woman approached the procession in a local park and insulted marchers with vulgarities. Police officers removed her from the scene.

Activists and other members of the LGBT community >> Pročitaj celu vest na sajtu N1 televizija << first gathered in the park across from Serbia’s Parliament in an upbeat mood, accompanied by music. They then walked toward Belgrade’s Student’s Square.

The LGBT activists spoke of unfair legislation, which they demanded the Government reassesses in order to make members of the LGBT community equal citizens in Serbia.

They criticised the Government for its laws regarding transgender persons, who in Serbia need to surgically change their gender in order to get documents for a new identity.

The activists noted that no one has ever been convicted for hate crimes in Serbia.
