Serbia’s exports and imports rise

Serbia’s exports in the first eight months of this year were worth 10.73 billion Euros while imports stood at 14.15 billion, the Republic Statistics Office said on Friday, adding that exports grew by 8.5 percent and imports by 13 percent compared to the same period of 2017.

The country’s overall foreign trade stood at 24.88 billion Euros or 11 percent higher than in the same period a year earlier with the trade deficit standing 30 percent higher at 3.4 billion Euros.

A total of 75.8 percent of imports were covered by exports. Most of Serbia’s foreign trade was with the countries that it has signed free trade agreements with – 63.7 percent of the trade is with European Union member states followed by trade with CEFTA member states which has earned Serbia a surplus of 1.55 billion Dollars.

Most of Serbia’s exports were to Italy, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania and Russia while imports were from Germany, Italy, China, Russia and Hungary.
