PM says Serbia has freedom of expression

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Friday that she believes that freedom of expression exists in Serbia and that her government is trying to be an example of openness to the media.

Speaking at the Belgrade Security Forum, Brnabic said that freedom of expression and free media are the basic principles of democracy but added that there is still a lot to do in terms of media freedom.

According to her, the problem was inherited. “That problem is not linked to this or the previous government or ruling party,” she said.

Brnabic rejected a recent Freedom House report which said that President Aleksandar Vucic was exerting pressure on the media.
